When a culture has been separated from its animistic heritage for many generations, the unconscious rejection of the power of the spiritual world to affect this reality runs deep. How to restore ancient practices in societies that have lost their traditions has become an overriding and ongoing mission of Second Sight. The name itself draws on Celtic lineage, second sight, being the gift seers of those traditions were given by the spirits. It is that sight that is most needed now.
We are an organisation dedicated to the renewal of shamanic practises and providing leading shamanic teaching, training and healing in the contemporary western world. We provide practical and theoretical training in shamanism, 1-1 healings, shamanic ceremonies, indigenous ceremonies, tarot training, spiritual mentoring and community.
Second Sight was established in 2005 by our core teacher Jez Hughes through shamanic healings, upon the realisation that westerners need a slightly different medicine to indigenous people whom are raised from birth in an animistic culture. Having lost our traditional lineages and practices in the West, we believe the land still holds the knowledge and wisdom of the ceremonies and offerings that will aid us to get ‘back on track again’, if we know how to listen.
Our ongoing relationship and collaboration with the Wixarika Nation, the unbroken shamanic lineage from Northern Mexico, allows us to learn from indigenous shamans how to integrate shamanism in relationship with our own land, through learning, listening and remembering our ancient practises, whilst supporting the existing shamanic cultures and work in the world through reciprocity. Through our collaboration and friendship with cultures whose traditions have remained largely intact, Second Sight Healing seeks to share the wisdom and beauty of ancient shamanic ways, whilst also bringing awareness to, and assisting in, the struggles indigenous people face in the modern world.
At the heart of our work is community. This involves repairing the bonds that have been lost within human families and communities brought up in an era of rampant individualism, The healing of broken bonds between ancestors and their descendants, and, crucially, the reparation of relationship between human culture and nature.
Through a 35 year relationship with spirits and ancestors, study and experience in practising shamanism, and a close relationship with an unbroken shamanic animistic culture, Jez initiated Second Sight to offer a container for others who seek this shamanic path in the modern world.
Imbalances that are occurring for a person in their lives as outer symptoms can often have a direct energetic root cause, as energy is what we are made of. Our healings treat the spiritual cause of illness and help to align you with your soul; allowing you to tap into the vast storehouse of wisdom and healing there, and create the opportunity for health.
Those who undertake our 5-year Shamanism Practitioner Course are initiated over the course of two years. During this time they undergo a series of challenging, initiatory rites through the Four Seeds Initiations and creating a framework that can be used for personal and collective transformation.
Meanwhile, our 6-month online foundation in Shamanism course is designed to act as an immersion into the world of the Shaman. It takes participants on a intimate journey into the ancient practice of shamanism, covering all the key tenets of the path.
